Autumn’s Rest Blog

We played two shows this past weekend.  Both were at Starbucks locations (one out on the far eastside of Cincy and the other up at Blue Ash).  We always love to play the Starbucks locales since they are pretty laid back and most of the customers are very receptive to the music. 

The above picture was taken with my new Nikon D200 (which I am very excited about) by my dad.  I am still trying to figure out the low lighting photography techniques associated with “concert photography”.  For this shot the camera was on an ISO setting of 1250 (the higher ISO speed the less you have to worry about available light, but the pictures will have a greater “grain” when shot on high ISO’s).  I think everything else was on auto, but I bet the shot could be brighter if a lower shutter speed was used without introducing to much motion blur.

Anyway enough of my camera talk.  The shows were relaxing for us, which was a welcome relief compared with a bar show we played recently.  I guess coffee and our music mix a little better than cheap beer.

Name Change and New Website:

Well we finally decided on a name for our musical duo. For a while we were okay with “Marc and Lauren”, but we always wanted something that might help to describe our music a little better. We are now known as Autumn’s Rest. Picture a park bench nestled between huge oak trees. The leaves have turned and are falling gently in their many Autumn colors. If you were sitting on that bench, how would you feel? That feeling is what we want our music to convey, which, hopefully most of the time, it will. Along with a new name, we have developed a new website. You can check it out: www.autumnsrest.com The website uses flash so you might have to make sure you have the latest player installed.

Upcoming Shows:

This weekend there are two chances to come out and hear us. The first is this Friday (August 4th) at the Blue Ash Starbucks. The second is on Saturday (August 5th) at the East Gate Starbucks. Both of these shows are from 8:00pm till 10:00pm.

New Venues:

Thanks to those who have given us ideas on new venues. We will hopefully hear back from some of these places soon and find out who our winner is. Once again thanks for the great input.

New Blog:

We have also just set up a blog, hopefully we can use this to document shows and any other random thoughts.

Hey anyone reading this… I’m not even sure who that would be.  You have stumbled across the blog for the musical duo, Autumn’s Rest.  Hopefully through this we can keep a record of concert diaries, new music ideas, and any of our simple musings. 

Well, to start I guess an introduction is in order.   Autumn’s Rest is Lauren Shiveley (Vocals) and Marc le Roux (Guitar).  We have been playing covers and originals in coffee bars etc since early 2005.  In December we recorded a little CD entitled, “Something For Now”.  This was done in my basement where I have some limited recording equipment, but I guess that’s just the way it is when one tries to produce music independantly.  If you want to give any of our music a listen you can hear it on our website (www.autumnsrest.com) Hope you enjoy it. 

 Well, I guess that’s it for now.  Hopefully soon you will hear from one of us again.
